A man has been charged following a siege in Sydney's west on the weekend.
About 1pm on Saturday 8 February 2025, officers from Cumberland Police Area Command were called to a home on Crimea Street, Parramatta, following reports of a concern for welfare.
Police attempted to speak to a 46-year-old man – who was allegedly armed with a samurai sword in the home – however, he refused.
A police operation ensued involving local police with assistance from the Tactical Operations Unit (TOU) and Police Negotiators.
A short time later, a 51-year-old woman who was also in the home at the time, was assisted from the premises without incident.
About 2.40pm, the 46-year-old man was arrested. He was taken to Westmead Hospital for assessment.
During the arrest, an officer from the TOU sustained a cut to his leg. He was taken to Westmead Hospital for treatment and remains there in a stable condition.
On Sunday 9 February 2025, the 46-year-old man was discharged from hospital and taken to Parramatta Police Station.
He was charged with cause wounding/grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder; take/detain person with intent to obtain advantage (DV); assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm and attempt stalk/intimidate intend fear of harm (domestic).
The man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Monday 10 February 2025).
