Police Charge Man After Tarneit Fires

Wyndham Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a 29-year-old man following a series of suspicious fires in Tarneit last week.

Police executed a search warrant at the man's Tarneit home this morning as part of an investigation into four fires.

He was arrested and charged with two counts of intentionally cause bushfire, criminal damage by fire and light fire in open air during period of fire danger.

The charges relate to four fires that occurred over a 24-hour period in the Tarneit area:

- A grassfire on Homebush Drive about 1.40am on 19 December

- A house under construction on Lidar Walk about 3.50am on 19 December

- A grassfire on Cassina Circuit about 10.40pm on 20 December

- A grassfire along a creek-bed on Badger Grove, Homebush Drive and Medallion Boulevard about 11.30pm on 20 December

He will appear in Melbourne Magistrates' Court today.
