Police Charge Man After Taxi Sexual Assault

Knox Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team detectives have charged a man following an incident during a taxi ride from Melbourne's CBD to the south-east suburbs last week.

It is believed a 30-year-old woman accepted a ride from a taxi service on Collins Street about 3:30 am on 27 June.

Police will allege the male driver sexually assaulted the woman throughout the duration of the 45 minute ride to Wantirna South.

It is understood the man allegedly stole the woman's engagement ring from her finger during the trip.

A 28-year-old Thomastown man was arrested at Melbourne International Airport about 2.30pm on 29 June.

He has been charged with 15 counts of sexual assault and one count of theft.

He was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court today.
