A man has been charged after approximately 40 tonne of grain was allegedly stolen from a property in the state's Central West.
Rural Crime Investigators attached to Central West Police District commenced an investigation following reports a large quantity of grain had been stolen from a property at Tullamore, approximately 70km south-west of Narromine in the early hours of Monday 30 November 2020.
It is alleged a prime mover and lead trailer carrying the grain, had rolled at the corner of the McGrane Way and Fairview Road near Narromine about 3am the same morning, spilling its contents alongside the roadway before the grain was reloaded into the trailer, and the vehicle towed from the scene.
Following inquiries, investigators executed a search warrant at a property on The McGrane Way, Narromine, about 11am Wednesday (2 December 2020).
A trailer containing more than 25 tonne of grain was located and seized for forensic examination.
A 33-year-old man was arrested at Parkes Police Station just before 3pm yesterday (Thursday 3 December 2020).
He was charged with larceny, enter enclosed agricultural lands interfere with business, and negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm).
The man was granted conditional bail to appear before Parkes Local Court on Monday 18 January 2021.
State Rural Crime Coordinator, Detective Chief Inspector Cameron Whiteside, said police have no tolerance for criminals who target the livelihood of the region's farmers.
"If you are a rural crime offender or have any inclination to prey on our farmers, you need to think again," Det C/Insp Whiteside said.
"This investigation again highlights the commitment and expertise of our Rural Crime Investigators to disrupt those who think it's okay to target our hardworking farmers."
Det C/Insp Whiteside reiterated the importance of reporting all rural crimes to your local police station as a matter of urgency to increase the opportunity to solve such crimes.
