Police Charge Man After Unit Fire - Coogee

A man has been charged following a unit fire in Sydney's east yesterday.

About 3.35pm yesterday (Wednesday 14 August 2024), emergency services were called to Malabar Road, South Coogee, following reports of a fire.

NSW Fire and Rescue extinguished a fire within a unit.

There have been no reports of injuries.

Officers attached to Eastern Beaches Police Area Command commenced an investigation into the fire, which police allege was deliberately lit.

A 31-year-old man was taken to Maroubra Police Station where he has been charged with damage property by fire with intent to injure, damage property by fire, and custody of a knife in a public place.

He was refused bail to appear in Waverley Local Court today, Thursday 15 August 2024.
