A man will appear in court today charged with stealing a vehicle in Sydney's west.
Just after 6.15pm on Friday (11 October 2024), police were called to Hilltop Road, Merrylands, following reports of a man with a firearm.
Officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command were told a man pointed what was believed to be a firearm at a number of people before leaving in a white Toyota sedan.
A short time later, police located the sedan abandoned on Boronia Street, Ermington.
Following inquiries, and with assistance from PolAir, , police arrested a 30-year-old man on Boyle Street, Ermington about 7pm.
Inquiries revealed the man allegedly entered the backseat of the Toyota and threatened the male driver, a 55 -year-old man and demanded to be driven to Villawood.
The driver drove a short distance before he handed the vehicle over to the man on Crimea Street, Parramatta, due to concerns for his welfare.
There were no reports of injuries.
The 30-year-old man was taken to Westmead Hospital for treatment and mandatory testing.
He was later taken to Granville Police Station where he was charged with steal motor vehicle, larceny value less than or equal to $2000, not give particulars to other driver, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period and use offensive weapon with intention to commit indictable offence.
He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Saturday 12 October 2024).
