Police charge man over $19,000 fraud

Whitehorse Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man after he allegedly made over $19,000 worth of fraudulent purchases last year.

Investigators have been told a 40-year-old woman from Kensington noticed fraudulent activity in her bank account in November of 2023.

The incident was originally reported online via the Australian Cyber Security Centre before it was forwarded onto Victoria Police for investigation.

Detectives executed a search warrant at a Kensington address on 24 January, where they located and seized property belonging to the victim.

A 38-year-old Kensington man has been charged with multiple offences, including obtaining property by deception, obtaining financial advantage by deception, and commit indictable offense whilst on bail.

He was bailed to appear before Ringwood Magistrates' Court on 6 June.
