A man will appear in court tomorrow charged over an alleged armed robbery in state's north.
About 1.20am on Sunday (23 February 2025), a 19-year-old man attended a business on Treelands Drive, Yamba, where he was allegedly assaulted by a man – armed with small axe - who stole his vape before riding off on a bicycle.
The man is alleged to have ridden to a nearby service station where he approached two men – both aged 22 – and threatened them with the axe before stealing a mobile phone and riding off.
Police were notified and officers from Coffs/Clarence Police District commenced an investigation.
Police were patrolling Angourie Road about 2pm today (Friday 28 February 2025), and as part of their inquiries, attempted to speak to a man.
The man fled into nearby bushland and following a foot pursuit, a 33-year-old man was arrested near a school. He was found in possession of methylamphetamine.
He was taken to Yamba Police Station where he was charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon, aggravated robbery with offensive weapon, assault with intent to rob armed with offensive weapon and possess prohibited drug.
The man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court tomorrow (Saturday 1 March 2025).
