Police Charge Man Over Assault - Newcastle West

A man has been charged following an investigation into an alleged assault at a licensed premises in Newcastle West last month.

On Sunday 16 March 2025, officers attached to Newcastle City Police District commenced an investigation following reports of an alleged assault.

Police were told that about 11.15pm the night before (Saturday 15 March 2025), a 31-year-old woman was assaulted by a man at a licensed premises on Union Street.

As a result of the alleged assault, the woman received treatment for various head and facial injuries.

Following extensive inquiries, officers identified a man from Ipswich, Queensland, as allegedly being involved in the incident.

The 43-year-old man has been issued a future court attendance notice for assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and affray.

He will appear before Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 8 May 2025.

Inquiries are ongoing.
