Police Charge Man Over Attempted Carjacking At Cronulla

A man has been charged after an alleged carjacking attempt in the Sutherland Shire yesterday.

About 3.15pm (Saturday 18 January 2025), officers from Sutherland Shire Police Area Command were called to Croydon Street, Cronulla, following reports of an attempted carjacking.

Upon arrival, police were told a man allegedly demanded the keys from two people getting into a car.

The man ran off and was confronted by members of the public.

A short time later, police arrested a 20-year-old man, and during a search, a pair of scissors were allegedly located.

No injuries were reported.

The 20-year-old man was taken to Sutherland Police Station where he was charged with aggravated assault with intent to take/drive motor vehicle - armed with weapon, have custody of an offensive implement in a public place and behave in offensive manner in/near public place/ school.

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court today (Sunday 19 January 2025).
