Police Charge Man Over Fatal Crash At Penrith

A man has been charged after a pedestrian died in a crash in Sydney's west.

About 12.45pm Friday (27 September 2024), emergency services were called to the intersection of Mulgoa Road and Ransley Street, Penrith, following reports a man on a mobility scooter had been struck by a car which allegedly failed to stop after the crash.

The pedestrian – an 87-year-old man – was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, he died at the scene.

Officers attached to Nepean Police Area Command established a crime scene which was be examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit.

Following enquiries and an extensive search of the area, police arrested a 48-year-old man at a shopping centre on Jane Street, Penrith, about 1.45pm.

He was taken to Nepean Hospital for mandatory testing, before being taken to Penrith Police Station and charged with dangerous driving occasioning death – drive manner dangerous, fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing death, negligent driving occasioning death, and not stop at stop line at red light.

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Saturday 28 September 2024.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
