Police Charge Man Over Hunter Pursuit

A man will face court today after a pursuit in the Hunter overnight.

About 8:20pm on Sunday (3 November 2024), officers attached to Newcastle City Police District were patrolling King Street, Newcastle, when they attempted to stop a motor vehicle after the driver allegedly failed to stop at a red light.

When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued to the intersection of Bureen Road and Martindale Road, Bureen, where road spikes were successfully deployed.

The pursuit was terminated when the vehicle stopped on Yarrawa Road, Denman, and police arrested the alleged driver, a 27-year-old man.

Following a search of the vehicle, police seized material alleged to be cannabis.

The man was taken to Muswellbrook Police Station where he was charged with

  • Not stop at stop line at red light (two counts)
  • Police pursuit – not stop – drive at speed
  • Possess prohibited drug
  • Dishonestly obtain property by deception, and
  • Drive, licence suspended under s 66 fines Act.

He was refused bail to appear at Muswellbrook Local Court today (Monday 4 November 2024).
