A man remains before the courts after a teenage girl was allegedly held against her will at a property in Lake Macquarie.
Officers attached to Lake Macquarie Police District responded to a 16-year-old girl that had allegedly been threatened by a man, armed with a firearm, about 3.45pm on Friday 23 August 2024, on Martinsville Road, Martinsville.
The girl was then allegedly forced into the boot of a sedan, before she was taken to a house on Freemans Drive, Cooranbong, where she was detained overnight.
About 11am on Saturday 23 August 2024, the girl was taken to a church in Cooranbong where she was able to alert police.
A 69-year-old man was arrested a short time later and taken to Toronto Police Station where he was charged with:
- Take etc person intend commit serious indictable offence,
- Possess loaded firearm public place,
- Carry firearm manner likely injure person/property,
- Acquire etc pistol – subject to firearms prohibition order, and
- Firearm etc found at premises subject to prohibition order.
He appeared before the Newcastle Local Court today (Monday 26 August 2024) where he was formally refused bail to appear before the same court on Wednesday 23 October 2024.
