Police Charge Man Over Public Place Shooting - Corrimal

A man will face court over a public place shooting south of Sydney.

About 4pm yesterday (Wednesday 16 April 2025), emergency services were called to a unit complex on The Avenue, Corrimal, following reports of an alleged shooting.

On arrival, officers from Wollongong Police District were informed that a number of shots had been fired into a unit at the location.

A short time later police arrested a 58-year-old man from the complex at the scene. It will be alleged that a number of firearms were located in the man's unit.

It will be further alleged that a 55-year-old woman residing with the man at the unit had earlier been assaulted by him. She was not injured.

A 46-year-old male occupant of the unit that had been shot at was uninjured.

It is believed that both men are known to one another.

Police established a crime scene that was examined by specialist officers.

The 58-year-old was taken to Wollongong Police Station, before he was taken to Wollongong Hospital as a precaution.

He was later discharged and returned to Wollongong Police Station and charged with 13 offences including:

  • Common assault (DV)
  • Destroy or damage property (DV)
  • Stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (domestic)
  • Handle/use firearm under the influence of alcohol/drug
  • Fire firearm at dwelling-house disregard for safety
  • Possess unregistered firearm-prohibited firearm
  • Possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit
  • Possess shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority x 2
  • Not keep firearm safely-prohibited firearm x 4

The man was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court today (Thursday 17 April 2025) where he was remanded in custody to re-appear at the same court on Wednesday 11 June 2025.
