Police Charge Man Over Pursuit At Lake Macquarie 20 March

A man will face court today charged following a pursuit at Lake Macquarie last night.

About 10pm yesterday (Wednesday 19 March 2025), police were patrolling Blacksmiths when they came across a vehicle that had stopped in a turning lane.

Officers stopped to assist after suspecting the vehicle had broken down; however, when they approached the driver, he drove from the scene.

When the vehicle allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated, continuing through Swansea to Wood Street where the driver exited the vehicle.

Officers pursued the man on foot and the 30-year-old man was arrested following a brief struggle.

He was taken to Belmont Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously, unlicensed for class, use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on road, and hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.

He was refused bail to appear before Belmont Local Court today (Thursday 20 March 2025).
