Police Charge Man Over Pursuit At Maitland

A man will face court today charged over an alleged pursuit near Maitland yesterday.

About 12pm (Thursday 31 October 2024), police attached to Raptor North attempted to stop a vehicle at Thornton due to the manner of driving.

When the vehicle allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued to Molly Morgan Drive, East Maitland, where the vehicle allegedly crashed into cars at a shopping centre.

No injuries were reported following the crash.

The driver of the car, a man aged 37, was arrested nearby and taken to Maitland Police Station.

A subsequent search of the man allegedly revealed an amount of substance, believed to be methylamphetamine.

He was charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive recklessly, drive while licence cancelled, negligent driving, use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on road, use uninsured motor vehicle on road, not give particulars to other driver, and possess prohibited drug.

Two outstanding warrants were also executed over alleged assault, property, and breach of bail offences.

He was refused bail to appear before Maitland Local Court today (Friday 1 November 2024).
