A man has been extradited from Victoria and charged over an alleged stabbing in Sydney's CBD last month.
About 4.20pm on Sunday 29 September 2024, emergency services were called to Darling Road, Haymarket, following reports of an assault.
On arrival, officers attached to Sydney City Police Area Command were told a 22-year-old man had been walking along Hay Street when he was stabbed in the back by another man, who ran away.
The men were not believed to be known to each other.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the injured man at the scene before he was taken to St Vincent's Hospital in a stable condition.
Police established a crime scene and commenced an investigation.
Following inquiries, police applied for a warrant and issued a public appeal to locate a 40-year-old man.
On Tuesday 1 October 2024, Victoria Police detectives arrested a 40-year-old man in Broadmeadows, Victoria, before the warrant was executed and NSW police applied for the man's extradition to NSW.
Today (Thursday 3 October 2024), the man was extradited to NSW and taken to Mascot Police Station where he was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and reckless wounding.
He was refused bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court tomorrow (Friday 4 October 2024).
