Police Charge Man Over Vehicle Theft, Pursuit At Orange

A man will face court following an alleged vehicle theft and pursuit in the state's west.

About 4am (Saturday 12 October 2024), officers attached to Central West Police District were patrolling Cameron Place, Orange, when they attempted to stop a white Audi sedan.

When it failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued through Anson Street where the pursuit was terminated for safety concerns.

Road spikes were deployed on the Mitchell Highway a short time later, and the vehicle came to a stop.

The driver ran from the vehicle and a foot pursuit ensued; however, the man could not be located.

Initial inquiries have led police to believe the vehicle was allegedly stolen from a business on Gateway Crescent, Orange, about 3am the same morning.

Further inquiries led police to arrest the 20-year-old man after he was located under a house on South Terrace, Orange.

He was taken to Orange Police Station where he was charged with:

- aggravated break and enter commit SIO-in company-steal >$60K,

- drive conveyance taken w/o consent of owner, and

- be carried in conveyance taken w/o consent of owner.

The man was refused bail and will appear before Dubbo Local Court today (Sunday 13 October 2024).
