A man has been charged with drug and driving offences following a crash at North Albury today.
About 2am (Thursday 20 May 2021), officers attached to the Murray River Police District were called to the intersection of Mate and Wantigong Streets, North Albury, after a car crashed into a power pole.
Police have been told the gold Camry was travelling north in the southbound lane of Mate Street before the crash, with witnesses unable to wake the driver.
Officers attended the scene and arrested the 40-year-old man, before he was taken to Albury Base Hospital for mandatory testing.
Checks revealed he was wanted on an outstanding warrant.
A subsequent search of the rental vehicle allegedly uncovered almost 100g of cocaine, as well as methylamphetamine, cannabis and more than 40 bottles of prescription medication.
Officers also located 32 porcelain chess pieces containing a brown substance, which will undergo testing.
They also allegedly seized a firearm silencer, an extendable baton, several mobile phones, housebreaking implements and cash.
The man has been charged with possess prohibited drug, supply prohibited drug, possess prescribed restricted substance, possess prohibited weapon, possess identity information with intent to commit indictable offence, possess housebreaking implements, deal with proceeds of crime, and goods in custody.
He was also charged with drive motor vehicle while disqualified – second offence.
The man has been refused bail to appear in Albury Local Court tomorrow (Friday 21 May 2021).
