Police Charge Man With DV Choking Offence At Wollongong

A man has been charged with a number of domestic violence offences in the Illawarra.

Police were contacted on (Sunday 21 July 2024) following concerns for the welfare of a 48-year-old woman, after she was allegedly threatened a number of times - once allegedly with a weapon.

About 1.40pm yesterday (Tuesday 23 July 2024), officers attached to the Southern Domestic Violence High Risk Offenders Team attended a home in Devenish Street, Tarrawanna, where they arrested a 40-year-old man in the backyard.

Police will allege in court that methylamphetamine and heroin was found in his possession when searched.

The man was taken to Wollongong Police Station where he was charged with intentionally choke etc person without consent (DV), armed with intent to commit indictable offence, stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (domestic), common assault (DV) and two counts of possess prohibited drug.

He was refused bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court today (Wednesday 24 July 2024).
