A man has been charged with high-range PCA after he was stopped while driving with two children in his vehicle in the state's south at the weekend.
About 4.40pm Saturday (27 August 2022), officers attached to Bega Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were patrolling the Princes Highway, Yellow Pinch – about 24km south of Bega – when they attempted to stop a Nissan Pathfinder.
Police will allege when the vehicle failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated during which the Nissan travelled at speeds of up to 90km/h in a 50km/h marked zone, before the vehicle came to a stop in Candelo-Wolumla Road, Wolumla.
Officers spoke to the driver – a 34-year-old man – who had two children in the vehicle – aged 8 and 9-years-old – before he underwent a roadside breath test which returned a positive result.
The man was arrested and taken to Bega Police Station, where he underwent a secondary breath analysis which returned an alleged reading of 0.222.
He was charged with high-range PCA (second offence), drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous – second offence, drive with breath sample from other in interlock device, and contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO.
The man appeared at Wollongong Bail Court yesterday (Sunday 28 August 2022) where he was formally refused bail to appear in Batemans Bay Local Court today (Monday 29 August 2022).
The children were uninjured during the incident.
