Police charge man with murder after Paringa assault, South Australia

A man has died following a serious assault in the Riverland earlier this month.

It will be alleged the man was assaulted during an altercation in the grounds of a Paringa accommodation facility just after midnight on Sunday 2 August by a man known to him.

The victim a 29-year-old man from Vanuatu did not go to work on Monday and was found unresponsive in his cabin that night.

Police and paramedics attended and the man was taken to the Berri Hospital with serious injuries. He was airlifted to the Royal Adelaide Hospital but sadly died from his injuries on Wednesday 12 August.

Riverland detectives commenced an investigation and arrested a 25-year-old man over the assault. He was initially charged with assault causing serious harm however, the charges have now been upgraded to Murder.

He was refused police bail and is expected to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on 8 December.

The investigation is continuing.

Detectives believe numerous people witnessed the incident on Saturday night/Sunday morning and urge anyone with information to come forward. Investigators would like to speak with anyone who saw the injured man at any time after the assault.
