Police Charge Reckless Endangerment in Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police have charged a 49-year-old man in relation to a recklessly endanger serious harm incident that occurred in Alice Springs yesterday.

Around 10.00am, the offender allegedly drove past another man in the Alice Springs CBD and made threats to kill him. The two are believed to be known to one another.

At 10.50am, the offender allegedly entered a shopping centre on Hartley Street armed with an edged weapon, where he approached the victim and made further threats to kill.

An altercation between the two occurred, with the offender allegedly physically assaulting the victim and attempting to strike him with the edged weapon multiple times. The victim retreated through the shopping centre attempting to defend himself.

Bystanders intervened which allowed the victim to leave the area and attend Alice Springs Police Station to report the incident.

The victim did not suffer any injuries.

Police commenced investigations and located the offender and arrested him at 2.00pm. He was taken to the Alice Springs Watch House where he was charged with Recklessly endanger serious harm.

He was remanded to appear in Alice Springs Local court today.
