Police have charged a teenager over his alleged role in a fatal crash in Sydney's south yesterday.
About 10.40pm (Tuesday 14 May 2024), emergency services were called to the intersection of Preddys Road and John Street, Bexley, following reports a pedestrian had been struck by a Ford Falcon.
Members of the public performed CPR until the arrival of NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, the 38-year-old man died at the scene.
Officers attached to St George Police Area Command established a crime scene which was examined by specialist officers attached to the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit.
The driver and sole occupant – a 17-year-old boy– had allegedly left the scene after the crash and returned later.
He was arrested and taken to St George Hospital with minor injuries for treatment, and to undergo mandatory testing.
The Ford was located parked nearby on Downey Street and seized for examination.
The 17-year-old was later taken to Kogarah Police Station today (Wednesday 15 May 2024) where he was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death drive manner dangerous, fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing death and negligent driving occasioning death.
The teen was refused bail to appear before a children's Court tomorrow (Thursday 16 May 2024).
