A teen has been charged following a police pursuit in the state's north west.
About 4.15am on Saturday 31 December 2022, a white Mazda CX 3 was allegedly stolen during an aggravated break and enter at a home on Miles Street, Inverell.
Officers attached to the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, sighted the vehicle on Old Bundarra Road, Inverell, about 12.30am on Sunday 01 January 2023.
Officers attempted to stop the vehicle; however, when it failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.
The vehicle continued to the township of Bundarra before changing directions and heading back to Inverell.
Police set up a road spike site on Thunderbolts Way, near Sandy Creek Bridge, which was successfully deployed.
The vehicle continued for approximately 2km before it stopped with two occupants fleeing on foot into bushland.
With assistance from the police dog squad, the driver was located a short distance away in bushes.
A 17-year-old boy was arrested and taken to Inverell Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit, drive recklessly /furiously or speed/manner dangerous, class A motor vehicle exceed speed over 45km, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, never licensed person drive vehicle on road, driver not disclose identity of driver/passenger and possess prohibited drug.
He was refused bail to appear before a children's court in Tamworth on Sunday 1 January 2023, where he was granted bail to attend a children's court in Inverell on Thursday 12 January 2023.
