A teen will face court next month following an investigation into the alleged armed robbery of a service station in the state's north-west last week.
About 1.30am on Tuesday 22 March 2022, a male – wearing a balaclava – entered a service station on Warialda Road, Inverell, and allegedly threatened an employee with a knife, demanding cigarettes and cash.
The male stole the items before fleeing on foot. He was last seen running towards Warialda Road.
The employee was not physically injured during the incident.
Officers attached to New England Police District attended and established a crime scene, which was forensically examined.
Following inquiries, detectives from Inverell attended a home in Guyra and arrested a 16-year-old boy.
He was taken to Armidale Police Station and charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon, goods in personal custody suspected being stolen, enter enclosed land without lawful excuse, aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence-armed and larceny.
The boy was refused bail and appeared at a children's court on Saturday 26 March 2022, where he was given conditional bail to re-appear at a children's court on Thursday 7 April 2022.
