Two teenage boys have been charged following a crash in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs at the weekend.
About 10pm on Saturday (1 February 2025), police responded to reports of a silver sedan seen driving erratically in Vauclause.
Officers attached to Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command located the empty vehicle – with the engine still running – on Plumer Road at Rose Bay, after it drove into the kerb.
A search was conducted with the assistance from the dog unit, but the occupants were not located.
During a search of the car, officers allegedly located an empty jerry can and egg cartons. The vehicle was seized for forensic examination.
Police commenced an investigation into the incident and police spoke to a 22-year-old woman and two witnesses who were allegedly struck by an egg while walking along Glenayr Ave, Bondi, about 9.30pm. A sign was also struck.
As part of inquiries, police spoke to the registered owner of the car at Maroubra Police Station on Sunday (2 February 2025).
Following further investigation, police arrested the alleged driver – a 16-year-old boy - in Maroubra about 2.30pm on Monday (3 February 2025).
A 14-year-old boy – alleged to have been a passenger – was arrested in Waverley the same day.
They were both taken to Waverley Police Station where the older boy was charged with take/drive conveyance without consent of owner, negligent driving, two counts of learner drive unaccompanied, and not display L plates.
The younger boy was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.
The older boy was refused bail to appear at children's court today (Tuesday 4 February 2025).
The younger boy was granted conditional bail to appear at a children's court on Monday 10 February 2025.
Police will allege in court that inquiries revealed the attack was random.
