Police have charged three people in relation to two separate deliberately lit fires in Southern Tasmania this week.
On Wednesday, around 2.40am, a Toyota Hilux utility was deliberately set on fire in the driveway of a private residence in Snug. The Hilux and contents were destroyed, valued at around $65,000.
On Thursday, around 2.30am, a commercial business on Stanton Place in Cambridge was broken into and an Isuzu truck was deliberately set fire. The truck was partially destroyed, and severe smoke damage caused to the building and contents, with a minimum value of $120,000.
Police believe the fires were targeted.
As the result of extensive investigations and searches undertaken, three people were taken into custody yesterday.
A 27-year-old man from Campania, and a 26-year-old woman and 39-year-old man from Dodges Ferry, were last night charged with a range of offences including unlawfully setting fire to property, burglary and stealing. They have been bailed with conditions to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court at a later time.
