Two males have been charged over an alleged pursuit near Ballina yesterday.
About 12.20am (Thursday 14 March 2024), police from Richmond PD Highway Patrol attempted to stop an allegedly stolen Ford Focus on the M1 Motorway at West Ballina.
When the vehicle allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated, continuing south to Iluka where the vehicle allegedly rammed two police vehicles before coming to a stop.
With the assistance of the police dog, the 22-year-old driver and his 16-year-old passenger were arrested at the scene and taken to Grafton Police Station.
There the driver was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for a dog-bite injury sustained during the arrest.
The 22-year-old man was charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously, never licensed person drive vehicle on road, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, use etc offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention etc, and hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.
He appeared before Grafton Local Court yesterday (Thursday 14 March 2024), where he was formally refused bail to appear before the same court on Monday 18 March 2024.
The 16-year-old boy was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, and intentionally throw object at vehicle/vessel risk safety.
He was refused bail to appear before a children's court yesterday (Thursday 14 March 2024), where he was granted conditional bail to appear before the same court on Friday 12 April 2024.
