Police Charge Two After Pursuit At Coffs Harbour

Two people have been charged after they were taken to a hospital following a pursuit and crash on the North Coast this morning.

About 8am today (Wednesday 25 December 2024), Highway Patrol was patrolling the Pacific Highway, Korora, when they attempted to stop an SUV allegedly being driven dangerously.

Initial checks alleged the vehicle was reported stolen from an address in Sawtell on Monday 16 December 2024.

When the driver allegedly failed to stop when directed, a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued through to the intersection of Beryl Street and Pacific Highway, where it was terminated due to safety concerns; however, a short time later, the vehicle hit another vehicle and rolled at the intersection of Park Avenue and Pacific Highway.

The 22-year-old female passenger – who was thrown from the vehicle on impact – was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital in a stable condition.

She has been charged with breach of bail and issued a court attendance notice to appear at Casino Local Court on Thursday 9 January 2025.

The driver, a 27-year-old man, was taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital under police guard.

The man has now been charged with drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, cause bodily harm by misconduct in charge of motor vehicle, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, and contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (Domestic).

The man remains in hospital and will appear via AVL in Parramatta Local Court tomorrow (Thursday 26 December 2024).
