Police Charge Two After Pursuits At Moree

A man and woman are due to appear in court today charged following two pursuits in the state's north yesterday.

Officers attached to New England Police Area Command were patrolling the Moree area about midday (Thursday 6 February 2025), when they attempted to stop the driver of a Toyota Aurion.

When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.

During the pursuit, the driver of the sedan allegedly crashed into a parked car in Jacaranda Drive, causing damage to the rear.

The Toyota continued for a short time before coming to stop in Teak Place.

The driver, a 19-year-old woman, was arrested.

A short time later, police attempted to stop a Holden Commodore utility on Gwydir Highway, Moree, after receiving complaints about the manner of driving.

When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated, travelling into Moree town, before he lost control and allegedly crashed into another vehicle.

The Holden then allegedly drove into the front of a marked police vehicle, causing damage to the front bumper.

Officers arrested the driver, a 20-year-old man, who allegedly resisted and kicked an officer in the stomach.

The man and woman were taken to Moree Police Station.

The man was charged with:

• Police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously

• Dishonestly obtain financial advantage etc by deception

• Negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm)

• Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period (two counts)

• Assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm, and

• Hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty

The woman was charged with:

• Police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously

• Negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm)

• Class A m/v exceed speed more than 20 km/h - estimated

• Not give particulars to other driver

• Never licensed person drive vehicle on road, and

• Destroy or damage property

Police will allege in court the man failed to pay for fuel at a service station on Frome Street, Moree, about 8am on Thursday 6 February 2025.

Police will further allege the man purchased the ute in Biniguy, on Thursday, however, payment was not received by the owner.

They have both been refused bail to appear in Inverell Local Court today (Friday 7 February 2025).
