Police Charge Two Men After Break And Enter At Tamworth

Two men will appear in court today following an alleged break and enter in the state's north west.

About 11pm yesterday (Saturday 23 November 2024), officers attached to Oxley Police District attended a home on Robert Street, South Tamworth, following reports of an alleged break and enter.

Police were told two men entered the property and allegedly assaulted two of the occupants before leaving.

A short time later, officers patrolling in the area, located two men allegedly walking on the road.

When police attempted to stop the pair a short foot pursuit was initiated.

When officers were attempting to restrain the two men, one allegedly produced a machete.

While he was being arrested an officer was assaulted.

The other man was arrested without incident, and a third man who had approached the scene was arrested for allegedly hindering police during the incident.

The three men, aged 20 and two 19-year-olds were taken to Tamworth Police Station.

The 20-year-old and 19-year-old were charged with aggravated enter dwelling and commit indictable offence, assault, assault police, armed with intent and possess knife in public place.

They were refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court today (Sunday 24 November 2024).

The other 19-year-old man was charged with hinder police and possess knife in public place. He was given conditional bail to appear before Tamworth Local Court on Monday 9 December 2024.
