About 4:30pm yesterday (Thursday 18 July 2024) officers attached to Riverina Police District approached a vehicle on the Hume Highway, Tarcutta.
When they attempted to stop the vehicle, it allegedly left the scene and was seen crossing onto the incorrect side of the roadway.
Following inquiries, the vehicle was located at Mates Gully Road, Tarcutta, a short time later and a pursuit was initiated. It will be alleged during the pursuit, the vehicle reached speeds of up to 180 km/h in a 100 km/h zone. Stop sticks were utilised and the vehicle came to a stop.
The driver – a 29-year-old man, and the passenger – a 25-year-old man, were arrested and a search was conducted of the vehicle with police allegedly locating a substance believed to be methylamphetamine.
Both men were taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station where the 25-year-old man was charged with specially aggravated break, enter and steal and two counts of assault causing ABH in company.
The 29-year-old man was charged with not obey police direction, police pursuit, supply prohibited drug, as well as breach of bail and an outstanding arrest warrant was executed for drug and firearm offences.
Both men were refused bail and will appear before the Wagga Wagga Local Court today (Friday 19 July 2024).
