Two men have been charged following a pursuit in South Tamworth over the weekend.
About 12.05am on Sunday (4 August 2024), police attached to the Police Transport and Public Safety Command, Dog Unit, were patrolling Margaret Street, South Tamworth, when they attempted to stop a white Toyota Corolla, after it was sighted driving erratically.
When it failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated. It was terminated a short time later after police lost sight of the vehicle.
About 12.20am, police located the vehicle abandoned on Belah Street, South Tamworth.
During a search of the car, multiple knives and unauthorised prescription medication was located.
A short time later, police attached to Oxley Police District stopped two men in a field near the intersection of Waree Drive and Kyila Street, who were also tracked to the location by a police dog.
The two men were subjected to a search, and police located methylamphetamine, a knife, and cannabis.
Both men were arrested and taken to Tamworth Police Station.
The 22-year-old man was charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive recklessly, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, possess prohibited drug, and driver not disclose identity of driver/passenger as required.
He was refused bail and appeared at Tamworth Local Court yesterday (Monday 5 August 2024), where he was given conditional bail to reappear at the same court on Monday 19 August 2024.
The other man was charged with drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, possess prohibited drug, and custody of knife in public place.
He was given conditional bail to appear at Tamworth Local Court on Monday 12 August 2024.
