Two men have been charged with attempted murder after a man was stabbed, kicked and punched in the face during a fight in northern NSW last week.
About 7.30pm on Friday (19 February 2021), officers attached to Central North Police District were called to Duff Street, Walgett, where a 24-year-old man was found with multiple injuries.
He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for stab wounds to the head and shoulder, before being taken to the Walgett Multipurpose Centre.
The Walgett man was airlifted by the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) to Dubbo Base Hospital for further treatment.
The man was later transferred to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Camperdown, where he is reported to be in a critical condition in a medically induced coma.
Strike Force Polworth was established to investigate the assault.
Following inquiries, at about 1am today (Tuesday 23 February 2021) a man was arrested at a house in Myall Street, Walgett.
The 21-year-old was taken to Walgett Police Station and charged with cause wounding/grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder, and wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The man appeared in Walgett Local Court today and was refused bail to appear at the same court on Tuesday 13 April 2021.
About 9.30am, another man was arrested at Walgett Police Station. The 22-year-old was charged with cause wounding/grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder, and wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The man appeared in Walgett Local Court today and was refused bail to appear at the same court on Tuesday 13 April 2021.
