A man will face court today, charged over an alleged aggravated robbery in the state's Riverina earlier this month, while a woman has been charged with the alleged assault of a police officer.
About 4.30am on Sunday 2 October 2022, three males allegedly forced their way into a supermarket on Sheridan Street, Gundagai, and stole cigarettes before leaving.
It will be further alleged a 35-year-old woman was assaulted and her vehicle stolen prior to the incident. She did not require further treatment.
Officers attached to Riverina Police District were notified and commenced an investigation.
Following extensive inquiries, officers attached to Wollongong Police District and South East Region Enforcement Squad (RES) attended a home on Heaslip Street, Coniston, about 3pm yesterday (Wednesday 19 October 2022).
A 30-year-old woman was arrested at the scene, while a 23-year-old man was arrested more than a kilometre away on Ocean Street, Mount Saint Thomas, after a foot pursuit.
Both were taken to Wollongong Police Station where the man was charged with four offences:
- Aggravated take/drive moto vehicle with person in/on it – in company
- Aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence – serious indictable offence
- Never licensed person drive vehicle on road – prior offence, and,
- Detention application – arrest.
The woman was charged with assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm and a warrant was also executed for alleged drug offences.
Both were refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court today (Thursday 20 October 2022).
Inquiries continue to locate the two males involved in the alleged robbery.
