Mirrabooka Detectives have charged two people as a result of their extensive investigation into an incident that occurred in Trigg on Friday 20 May 2022, in which a 28-year-old man received serious facial injuries.
About 9.30pm, two men in their 20s were travelling south along the footpath of West Coast Drive on orange rental e-scooters. When the scooters neared Mettams Pool it will be alleged the occupants of a vehicle travelling on West Coast Drive threw, or fired a potato at the scooters, injuring one of the riders.
The 28-year-old victim sustained serious facial injuries and a fractured arm. As a result of the serious facial injuries the victim's eye was injured to such an extent that the eye had to be surgically removed.
Inspector Brett Baddock from the Midland District Office said Police will allege that this dangerous act was planned but not targeted at any one individual.
"It would appear those involved thought it would be fun to use potatoes as projectiles aimed at people minding their own business and enjoying our coastal strip. This so called fun has ended in tragedy, with the victim losing one eye.
"Mirrabooka Detectives pursued this investigation relentlessly and there are very serious consequences associated with the charges that have resulted from this investigation. Detectives will not stop until they have found all those responsible."
Mirrabooka Detectives charged a 19-year-old man from Ballajura with:-
• One count of Grievous Bodily Harm;
• One count of Acts Likely to Endanger the Life Health or Safety of Any Person; and
• One count of Possess Prohibited Weapon.
Detectives also charged a 20-year-old man from Ballajura with:-
• One count of Grievous Bodily Harm;
• One count of Acts Likely to Endanger the Life Health or Safety of Any Person; and
• Three counts of Common Assault.
