A man and a woman have been charged with multiple offences after a pursuit with police in the state's Northern Region yesterday.
About 2.35pm (Monday 9 August 2021), police were travelling on Warrawee Street, Sapphire Beach, and noticed a Landcruiser, allegedly driven by a 28-year-old woman, stopped in the middle of the road.
The officer from Coffs Clarence Police District stopped behind the Landcruiser before another vehicle, a black Holden Commodore, pulled in between the vehicles and obstructed the officer.
The drivers of both vehicles stopped and had a brief conversation before the Landcruiser performed a U-turn and drove at the police vehicle ramming the front of the police car.
The Landcruiser and the Commodore sped from the scene and a pursuit commenced, however, it was terminated due to safety concerns.
Minutes later the Commodore was seen heading west on Smiths Road, Emerald Beach and onto a dirt road.
Officers caught up with the vehicle which had become struck on the dirt track. A short foot pursuit occurred before officers arrested a 27-year-old man.
While conducting inquiries at the scene, the 28-year-old woman returned in the Landcruiser. She was also arrested.
Police will further allege that a search of the Commodore uncovered a double-barrel shotgun on the front passenger's seat, and both vehicles were confirmed stolen.
The pair were taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit, disqualified driver, drive manner dangerous, use vehicle to avoid apprehension, possess ammunition and unauthorised firearm.
The woman was charged with police pursuit, possess drugs, drive manner dangerous, drive stolen conveyance.
They were both refused bail and will appear in Coffs Harbour Local Court today (Tuesday 10 August 2021).
