Two teenagers will appear in court after being charged following an alleged pursuit through south Wollongong.
About 3pm yesterday (Wednesday 13 November 2024), officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District were patrolling Lakelands Drive, Dapto, when they attempted to stop an allegedly stolen vehicle.
The driver allegedly failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated.
The car travelled north on the M1 Motorway before the pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns.
A short time later, officers from Southern Operations Support Group reinitiated a pursuit on the M1 near the Berkeley off ramp.
About 3pm the car collided with another vehicle on the Princes Highway, Figtree near Obrien's Road.
The 17-year-old male driver was arrested at the scene.
The 16-year-old male passenger allegedly fled on foot and ran into nearby bushland before he was arrested a short time later.
The male driver of the other car was not injured.
The teenagers were taken to Wollongong Police Station.
The 17-year-old boy was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously; take and drive conveyance without consent of owner; never licenced person drive vehicle on road and hinder or resist police officer in execution of duty.
The 16-year-old boy was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner and carry cutting weapon upon apprehension.
They were refused bail to appear at a children's court on Thursday 14 November 2024.
