A man and woman have been charged with the alleged sale of prohibited drugs via the internet.
Strike Force Superba was established in May this year, acting on information that packages of cannabis seeds were being sold online to interstate buyers.
Following extensive inquiries, officers attached to the South East Region Enforcement Squad (SERES) – with assistance from Southern High Visibility Police and the Domestic Violence High Risk Offenders Team – seized 76 packages of cannabis seeds from a post office in Vincentia on Thursday 7 July, with a further 72 parcels seized from the same post office on Tuesday (12 July 2022).
Acting on information, police attended a home on Island Point Road, St Georges Basin, about 8.15am yesterday (Wednesday 13 July 2022) and arrested a man, aged 35, and a woman aged 37.
During a search of the home, police seized 9000 cannabis seeds, 1.2kg of cannabis leaf, magic mushrooms, electronic devices, cash, and items allegedly consistent with the supply and sale of prohibited drugs.
The man and woman were taken to Nowra Police Station, where the man was charged with 13 offences, including
- Supply prohibited drug (seven counts)
- Cause to be carried by post article with controlled drug/plant (five counts), and,
- Deal with proceeds of crime.
The woman was charged with 12 offences:
- Supply prohibited drug (six counts)
- Cause to be carried by post article with controlled drug/plant (five counts), and,
- Deal with proceeds of crime.
They were granted conditional bail to appear in Nowra Local Court on Tuesday 16 August 2022.
Police will allege in court that the seeds were imported from Europe and North America before being sold Australia-wide.
