Police charge woman after deliberately lit house fire at Wollongong

A woman has been charged after allegedly deliberately lighting a house on fire in Wollongong last month.

About 5.45pm on Sunday 29 August 2021, emergency services responded to reports of a house fire in Henry Street, Tarrawanna.

Officers attached to Wollongong Police District attended and found the house well alight.

Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze, which destroyed the home.

No one was inside at the time and there were no reported injuries.

The resident, a woman aged 62, attended Wollongong Police Station that evening but was released pending further inquiries.

Following investigations into the circumstances surrounding the blaze, the woman was arrested at Wollongong Police Station about 10am today (Thursday 23 September 2021).

The Tarrawanna woman was charged with damage property by fire and granted conditional bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday 19 September 2021.
