Police Charge Woman Over Pursuit Near Maitland

A woman has been charged following a pursuit and crash near Maitland last night.

About 8.40pm yesterday (Monday 4 November 2024), police from Maitland Highway Patrol attempted to stop a vehicle on Chelmsford Drive, Metford, for the purpose of an RBT.

When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.

A short time later, a woman allegedly jumped from the vehicle on Wakehurst Crescent while it was still moving, before crashing into a unit complex on the same street.

No injuries were reported; however, the building sustained damage to the external framework, bursting a water pipe and causing flooding internally.

The alleged driver, a 41-year-old woman, was arrested nearby following a short pursuit on foot.

She was taken to Maitland Police Station where she was charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive recklessly, and drive motor vehicle during disqualification period.

She was refused bail to appear before Maitland Local Court today (Tuesday 5 November 2024).
