Police have charged three people with traffic-related offences and issued 50 infringement notices during a road blitz across the Central West.
Operation Spoiler is a high-visibility road policing operation targeting criminal activity, anti-social behaviour, drink-driving and road-related offences.
The operation was conducted by officers attached to North West Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, and together with local police, between Thursday (1 August 2024), and Monday (5 August 2024).
Police conducted proactive patrols over 5,200km, covering the regional areas of Mudgee, Gulgong, Rlystone, Kandos, Ulan, Cope and Lue.
Of note, about 3.35pm on Friday (2 August 2024), police were patrolling Cope Road, Cope, when they detected a Honda Coupe travelling at 166km/h in a 100km/h zone.
Police activated warning devices and stopped the car. The driver – a 24-year-old man – was given an infringement notice for class A motor vehicle exceed speed over 45km/hr. His licence was also suspended on the spot.

Acting Inspector Stephen Wynne of Traffic and Highway Patrol Command said police will continue to run these types of operations to ensure motorists are complying with the road rules and all road users are always sharing the road network safely.
"There is no place on our roads for dangerous driving behaviour, drink or drug driving or any acts that puts other motorists at risk."
