Police Crack Down on Stolen Vehicles in Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police are currently investigating 5 stolen motor vehicles in Alice Springs that have been used in a ram raid and have injured a police member.

At 1:25am this morning, police received reports of 3 stolen vehicles driving dangerously around a town camp just south of the Alice Springs CBD.

Police deployed to the area with one of the vehicles allegedly ramming into the back of the police vehicle with one of the officers suffering bruising to his back.

Shortly after, the stolen vehicles rammed a commercial premises in Connellan, stealing a quantity of alcohol.

Police CCTV operators later observed the stolen motor vehicle driving dangerously in Alice Springs.

Strike Force Viper coordinated a tyre deflation device response with the vehicles last seen fleeing early this morning.

One of the vehicles has since been recovered.

Commander James Gray-Spence said " The injured officer was treated at Alice Springs Hospital and has been released to recover.

"The offenders conduct overnight was reckless, endangered our community and the behaviour will not be tolerated.

" Strike Force Viper will be assisted by Detectives from Regional Crime to continue the investigation into these occurrences.
