Police Hunt Clues in Alice Springs Car Theft

Northern Territory Police are calling for information in relation to a burglary that occurred in Ciccone on Saturday evening.

Around 10.20pm, an unknown number of offenders have allegedly unlawfully entered a business on Smith Street and stolen a set of vehicle keys. The offenders allegedly used the keys to steal a Ford Ranger located onsite, and rammed through locked gates to flee the scene, causing damage.

The vehicle was fitted with tracking software allowing police to locate and arrest one offender who was sighted leaving the vehicle on South Terrace. The 18-year-old male was conveyed to Alice Springs watch house and charged with Driving, Using a Motor Vehicle without Consent. He is due to appear in Alice Springs Local Court on 2 October 2024.

The vehicle was sighted in the Alice Springs CBD a short time later driving erratically, both on and off the road. Police were able to track the vehicle as it fled the area and members from Strike Force Viper recovered it abandoned on Spearwood Road, Sadadeen.

The remaining offenders are still outstanding.
