Police are appealing for public assistance after an alleged armed robbery in Sydney's east.
About 1am today (Tuesday 26 November 2024), police were called to Ascot Street, Kensington, following reports of an alleged armed robbery.
Officers attached to Eastern Beaches Police Area Command were told an unknown man allegedly threated a 23-year-old man with a firearm before he took an amount of cash and left the scene.
It is alleged the 23-year-old man attempted to exchange his cash into a foreign currency with a person he met online.
The 23-year-old man was not injured.
As inquiries continue, police are appealing for public assistance to identify a man who they believe can assist with their inquiries.
The man is described as being of 160cm tall, medium build, with blue eyes.
He was wearing a black hat, a black balaclava covering his face, a black shirt, black pants, and black shoes.
Detective Inspector Paul Grace from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command urge public to not exchange a large amount currency with others but to use a secure and official route such as bank, to transfer money to foreign currency.
"Members of public are urged not to arrange a currency exchange with an unknown person through online. By posting an advertisement online, you may become a target of serious crime and it will threat not just your money but also your welfare on some occasions." Detective Inspector Paul Grace said.
