Police Hunt Suspects in Bowen Break-Ins

Police are investigating a series of break and enter offences on businesses across Bowen early this morning, December 24.

Initial reports suggest at 4am a silver hatchback vehicle with no registration plates was parked in front of a Williams Street grocery store.

Three people from the vehicle smashed their way inside the store but left empty handed after being interrupted by staff.

A short time later, the same vehicle was seen parked outside a liquor store on the corner of Williams Street and Gregory Street.

Two people smashed through the front door but did not take anything.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle as it left the scene but were unsuccessful.

At 4.10am the vehicle stopped at a Leichhardt Street service station where offenders again smashed the door and stole cash from the cash register behind the counter.

The vehicle then travelled north along the Bruce Highway, stopping at a Merinda service station, where the offenders smashed the door and stole a small safe from inside the business.

The safe has since been seized by police following assistance from members of the public.

The vehicle was last seen travelling north towards Ayr.
