A man has died following an incident in the south east overnight, according to SA Police.
At 2am on Sunday 2 April, patrols were called to a house in Mount Gambier after reports of a man threatening self-harm.
On arrival, patrols found the man in the rear yard in possession of a firearm. Police briefly spoke to the 49-year-old man who then died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The death has been declared a death in custody under the Coroner’s Act.
Detectives from Major Crime are making their way to Mount Gambier to conduct an investigation and prepare a report for the State Coroner.
Support has been provided to the police officers involved and the family of the deceased.
