Police are investigating a road rage incident in Upwey that has left a driver needing surgery.
Investigators have been told a 63-year-old Rowville man was driving westbound on Glenfern Road around 3.15pm on 21 December.
The speed limit was reduced to 40km/h due to CFA backburning in the area at the time.
A vehicle began tailgating the victim's car and beeping the horn repeatedly.
The two vehicles continued westbound and come to a stop side by side at the intersection of Napoleon Rd and Wellington Road.
A verbal argument took place but both parties remained in their vehicles.
Both vehicles turned onto Wellington Road, Rowville in a westerly direction when the offending vehicle swerved in front of the victim's vehicle and stopped.
The offender got out of his vehicle and approached the victim who has his window down.
The offender reached into the victim's car and pushed the victim then proceeded to bite the victim's finger.
The offender returned to his vehicle and drove off toward Wellington Village in Rowville.
The victim self-presented at hospital where he required surgery for the wound.
The offender has been described as a Caucasian male, mid to late 40's and was driving a light-coloured Kia Rio or similar with a female passenger.
