Police Investigating Arson At Freshwater

Police have charged a 37-year-old man following a building fire at a Freshwater address on Sunday, November 3.

Emergency services were called to a Smithfield Road unit at around 1.15am and extinguished the blaze.

The building was extensively damaged due to the fire.

No one was seriously injured.

Police located a man at the scene and he was taken into custody, before he was transported to the Cairns Hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation.

A crime scene was declared and investigations are continuing.

A 37-year-old man from Freshwater has been charged with one count of arson.

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today, November 4.
